Fruitland Township is a zoned community. Before proceeding with any building or home improvement project, property owners are advised that they need to check with Fruitland Township to see that they are in compliance with zoning ordinances and the building code. The process may start with the filing of a zoning compliance form, which is available at the Fruitland Township Hall or on the Zoning Department page of this website.
(See Zoning Department for more information and applications)
Once Zoning approval has been established, a building permit is applied for and if the project meets the Uniform Building Code, a building permit is issued. The Building Inspector is Mr. Chris Hall and he has office hours on Wednesday mornings. The Electrical and Mechanical Inspectors are contracted through Muskegon Charter Township and the Plumbing Inspector is Mr. Leonard DeHoff.
While most building permits are routinely approved, you are advised to start the approval process well before you plan to start to avoid any disappointment.
